Accelerated Technology Announces Kernel Aware Debugging for the ARM RealView Debugger
MOBILE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 2002--Accelerated
Technology, the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics
(Nasdaq:MENT - News), today announced the immediate release of Nucleus PLUS
MTD for the ARM® RealView(TM) Debugger.
Today"s embedded applications are increasingly complex. Modern
embedded systems have many of the features expected in a desktop
operating system such as file systems, network communications and
GUIs. But these embedded applications must meet the additional
demanding requirements of the embedded environment. In this year"s
Venture Development Corporation (VDC) embedded developers
survey(Note A), application complexity was found to be the third most
common reason for late projects. As a result, developers are looking
for tools to help them overcome this complexity.
Nucleus PLUS MTD for the ARM RealView Debugger reduces system
complexity by allowing developers to debug and tune their applications
at the task level. When plugged into the ARM RealView Debugger, the
Nucleus PLUS MTD extends the RealView technology to provide kernel
aware debugging for Nucleus PLUS, a flexible and portable real-time
kernel. Among other things, the ability to debug at the task level
allows developers to monitor Nucleus PLUS resources, set task
dependant break points and view the call tree for each individual
task.
Accelerated Technology has supported ARM products for more than a
decade. Nucleus awareness of the ARM debugger will make it even easier
for developers to take advantage of the well-documented source code
and no royalty fees that Nucleus offers. The robust, scalable features
of Nucleus, combined with the highly-optimized RealView Debugger, will
give users the tools they need to rapidly build their SoC
applications.
"Our experience with ARM and their processors exceeds that of all
of our competitors. Now, with integration into ARM"s RealView
Debugger, our mutual customers have a world class debugging solution
with Nucleus PLUS awareness. Supporting other vendor"s tools with
kernel awareness is and will continue to be a goal for Mentor Graphics
in the embedded space. We are continually seeking opportunities to
expand the possibilities that our customers can use to enhance their
ability to get to market more quickly. This means openness at every
level -- our tools, our RTOS, and our services," said Neil Henderson,
general manager of Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division.
"We have worked closely with Accelerated Technology on the
development of this highly-integrated solution for Nucleus PLUS
applications on the ARM architecture," said Rod Crawford, product
manager, ARM RealView OS Awareness. "The ARM RealView Debugger with
the Nucleus PLUS MTD plug-in provides developers with the ability to
visualize many levels of abstraction upon their applications -- from
bare metal to device visualization, through to RTOS tasks/resources
and complete application on one or more ARM cores."
The ARM RealView(TM) Debugger, which is based on Mentor"s embedded
technology, is a leading component of ARM"s RealView development
solution, which delivers multi-core mixed architecture debugging and
OS awareness of applications for ARM core-based complex SoC designs.
Pricing and Availability
Available now, the U.S. price for the kernel awareness module for
Nucleus starts at $1,295 per seat. The Nucleus PLUS MTD for the ARM
RealView Debugger is provided as a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) that
plugs seamlessly into the RealView debugger.
